Platyhelminthes. Flatworms have no body cavity other than the gut (and the smallest free-living forms may even lack that!) and lack an anus; the same pharyngeal opening both takes in food and expels waste. Phylum Platyhelminthes belongs to kingdom Animalia.
Modern Latin (plural), from ' platy', means ' flat' + Greek ' helminth' means 'worm'.
The Platyhelminthes excluding Acoelomorpha contain two main groups - Catenulida and Rhabditophora - both of which are generally agreed to be monophyletic (each contains all and only the descendants of an ancestor that is a member of the same group).
Platyhelminthes (flatworms) Platyhelminthes are commonly known as flatworms. Their worm like bodies are soft, unsegmented, dorsoventrally flattened with bilateral symmetry, and resemble ribbons. General Physical Traits (Anatomy): Flatworms are bilaterally symmetrical.
